NPP Office in the Crosshairs: Ho Municipal Assembly Moves to Demolish Party Office

Ho, Volta Region – The Ho Municipal Assembly has begun efforts to demolish the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ho Central Constituency office, located adjacent to the Ho Sports Stadium. The office, which has served as a party office since 2009, is slated for destruction, sparking outrage among party officials.

According to Frank Ahaze, Chairman of the Ho Central Constituency, the party received a call informing them that the assembly had written “demolish immediately” on the building, prompting them to rush to the scene. “We didn’t receive any written notice or prior warning,” Ahaze said in an interview. “We only got a call, and when we arrived, we saw that they had already marked the building for demolition. I don’t think demolishing this office will serve any useful purpose.”

Ahaze questioned the rationale behind the demolition, pointing out that there is vast land behind the office that could be utilized for other purposes, such as parking facilities for the upcoming Farmer’s Day or Volta Fair celebrations. “There’s ample space behind the office that can be used for parking, so I see no reason why the office should be demolished,” he added.

The NPP official revealed that the office was donated to the party by a benevolent individual. “This office was given to us by somebody,” Ahaze said. “It’s been our office since 2009, and it’s disheartening to see it being torn down without any consideration for the party’s feelings.”

Earth-moving machines have already begun clearing the frontage of the building, prompting Ahaze to appeal to the Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, to intervene and halt the demolition. “I’ve called the engineer, pleading with him to meet the MCE to resolve this matter amicably,” Ahaze said.

The NPP is expected to take a strong stance against the demolition, with party officials urging the assembly to reconsider its decision.
