Abducted 8-Month-Old Baby Found Safe
The eight-month-old baby boy who was allegedly abducted from the Kpando Market in the Volta Region has been found safe. The infant reportedly went missing on Thursday, July 16, after he was allegedly taken by a woman at the market under circumstances that are now the subject of a police investigation.
Following an intensive search, the baby was found at Bowiri-Toviate in the Oti Region and safely reunited with the mother and members of the search party. Police reports indicate that the baby was subsequently taken to the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital in Kpando for medical examination to assess his condition after the ordeal.
Police have confirmed that a woman who is the suspect believed to be connected to the alleged abduction is currently in custody at the Kpando Police Command and assisting with investigations.
Investigators have commenced inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance, how he was transported to the Oti Region, and whether any other individuals were involved in the incident.
As at the time of filling this report, The police have not formally released the identity of the suspect or additional details about the rescue, explaining that investigations are ongoing. However, according to a video posted by Akpini Radio’s Godwin, the suspect identified herself as Stella.
The successful recovery of the infant has brought immense relief to residents of Kpando, while authorities have assured the public that anyone found culpable will face the full rigours of the law once investigations are concluded.
As further updates are expected to be provided as investigations proceed, the abduction raises serious concerns about the safety of children. As to whether this is a renewed operation of human trafficking, only the security agencies can ascertain that. Parents and guardians must however keep watching over their wards with keen eyes to ensure their safety and report any suspicious act around their wards to the appropriate authorities.
