Mahama Launches Landmark Airport Concourse Project

President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the construction of an interconnecting concourse between Terminals 2 and 3 at the Accra International Airport, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s aviation infrastructure expansion. According to #GhanaNews, the project aims to ease congestion, improve passenger flow, and strengthen Ghana’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

The new concourse will feature modern facilities, including five passenger boarding bridges, upgraded waiting areas, VIP lounges, and retail spaces, significantly enhancing the passenger experience and operational efficiency at the airport. President Mahama emphasized that the project is a strategic investment in Ghana’s aviation future, economic competitiveness, and service delivery standards.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama noted that passenger traffic has grown significantly, from 1.8 million in 2022 to 2.5 million in 2025, putting pressure on existing facilities. He stressed that urgent interventions are necessary to prevent further strain on efficiency and service delivery.

The project is part of a broader redevelopment plan, which includes upgrading Terminal 2 to handle both domestic and international flights, and constructing a seven-storey car park at Terminal 3 with capacity for about 2,000 vehicles. The facility will also feature retail outlets, restaurants, a viewing lounge, conference facilities, and an airport hotel.

President Mahama urged stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of the project, emphasizing that Ghana must invest strategically to remain competitive in the region.
