France, UK, and Ukraine Sign Declaration on Multinational Force Deployment

France, the UK, and Ukraine have signed a declaration of intent to deploy a multinational force in Ukraine following a ceasefire with Russia. The move aims to strengthen Kyiv’s security and unity against Moscow. According to the Kyiv Post, the declaration was signed by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris.

The agreement outlines plans for Britain and France to establish military hubs across Ukraine and build protected facilities for weapons and military equipment to support Ukraine’s defensive needs. The US has also offered to support the force in case of an attack, a move described as “game-changing” by European leaders.

According to CNN, the declaration sets out the legal framework for British and French forces to operate in Ukraine, providing a clear basis for their deployment. The agreement is part of a broader effort by Western leaders to guarantee Kyiv’s post-war security and deter Moscow from further aggression.

The members of the Coalition of the Willing, which includes representatives from 35 countries, have also agreed to supply Ukraine with critical long-term military assistance and armaments. Additionally, a multinational force will be deployed to guarantee Ukraine’s security in the air, at sea, and on land.

President Zelensky emphasized that the allies have made detailed plans on force deployment, numbers, and specific types of weapons required. Macron noted that several thousand French soldiers could be deployed to Ukraine to maintain peace after a ceasefire agreement with Russia.

Russia has previously rejected the presence of NATO troops or those associated with the Coalition of the Willing in Ukraine, warning that it would regard any European troops as legitimate targets.
