Fuel Prices to Drop in January 2026

Ghanaian motorists and households are in for a pleasant surprise in the new year, as petrol, diesel, and LPG prices are set to decrease. According to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), petrol prices will fall by 2.4% to 4.8%, diesel prices will drop by 2.42% to 3.77%, and LPG prices will reduce by 1.2% to 2.19% .

The expected price cuts are attributed to a combination of factors, including a stronger Ghana cedi and falling crude oil prices on the international market. The cedi has appreciated by more than 3% against the US dollar over the past three weeks, rising from GH¢11.14 to GH¢10.50 to the dollar.

International crude oil prices have also declined, with petrol prices down 9.17%, diesel prices down 8.11%, and LPG prices down 3.82%. This trend is expected to continue, providing relief to consumers.

If implemented, the price reductions could bring significant savings for motorists and households, especially after the high spending associated with the festive season. Lower fuel prices could also help ease transport costs and moderate inflationary pressures in the early months of the year.

Over 200 oil marketing companies have confirmed plans to adjust their prices, with some expected to implement the changes as early as January 1, 2026. Consumers can expect to pay around GH¢11.90 per litre for petrol, GH¢12.50 per litre for diesel, and GH¢13.40 per kilogram for LPG.

The anticipated price cuts are a welcome relief for Ghanaians, and it’s expected to have a positive impact on the economy.
