Mahama Government Pledges 100 Fire Engines to Boost Fire Service

 

 

The Ghana National Fire Service is set to receive a significant boost with the delivery of 100 new fire engines, as pledged by President John Dramani Mahama. According to the Chief Fire Officer, the move is aimed at enhancing the Service’s capacity to respond to fire emergencies across the country.

 

The announcement was made as part of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, presented by Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson. The Minister emphasized that the retooling initiative forms part of the government’s broader commitment to strengthening emergency response systems and improving national safety infrastructure.

 

The Ghana National Fire Service has been facing challenges in responding to fire incidents due to inadequate equipment. The new fire engines and modern equipment are expected to significantly improve the Service’s effectiveness in protecting lives and property.

 

According to the Chief Fire Officer, Edwin Ekow Blankson, the procurement package includes 2000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), installation of mechanized boreholes, and high-rise hydrants, among others. The CFO expressed hope that the retooling would enhance firefighting capabilities in the country and transform the Ghana National Fire Service.

 

The government has assured the public of its commitment to building a fair, prosperous, and self-reliant Ghana, with a focus on rebuilding and modernizing key national institutions. The Ghana National Fire Service is expected to play a crucial role in this endeavor.
