Deadly Crash Claims 16 Lives on Ashanti Region Highway

 

 

A devastating head-on collision between a Ford Transit bus and an ambulance at Potrikrom in the Ahafo Ano South-East District of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of 16 people, leaving behind a trail of grief and destruction. The crash, reportedly caused by excessive speed, has sent shockwaves across the nation, with survivors rushed to Adugyaman Government Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.

 

According to #CitiFM, the Ford Transit bus, registration GT 6576-19, was traveling from Kumasi to Bechem when it collided with the ambulance, registration GV 527-23, which was reportedly conveying a pregnant woman from Drobo to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. The impact of the crash left both vehicles mangled beyond recognition, with the majority of passengers on board the Ford Transit bus feared to have perished instantly.

 

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with bodies severely dismembered and scattered across the crash site. “Officers from the MTTD at Mankranso conveyed the bodies in a pickup vehicle to the mortuaries at Mankranso and Adugyama,” said Kwabena Stephen, an eyewitness. Other witnesses alleged that the ambulance, believed to belong to St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital at Drobo, was overtaking another vehicle when the crash occurred.

 

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, has expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, saying “may their souls rest in peace”. The Potrikrom community remains in deep shock and mourning as police clear the road to ease traffic congestion. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the tragic incident.

 

Ghana has recorded a significant number of road crash fatalities in recent years, with 2,949 deaths reported in 2025 alone, marking the country’s highest-ever reported road fatality cases in a single year {{IE_0}}ยน{{/IE_0}}.

 

The nation mourns the loss of these lives, and efforts are being made to support the affected families.
