Ghana’s Attorney General Eyes Extradition of Ken Ofori-Atta Over US Court Case

Ghana’s Attorney General, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has expressed hope that an extradition process will soon be initiated to return former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana. This follows Ofori-Atta’s involvement in a US court case related to immigration issues, which the AG says he has been monitoring closely.

According to the AG, he has received confidential reports on the proceedings, indicating the case’s potential implications for Ghana. The AG’s comments suggest the government is considering further action against Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2023.

The US court case has sparked interest in Ghana, with many calling for accountability from public officials. Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister was marked by controversy, including the COVID-19 pandemic’s economic impact and the 2022 e-levy introduction.

The AG’s statement signals the government’s intent to pursue legal avenues to bring Ofori-Atta back to Ghana if necessary. The extradition process would require cooperation between Ghana and US authorities.

The case has reignited debates about accountability and governance in Ghana. Ofori-Atta maintains a significant presence in Ghanaian politics, and his case is being closely watched.

The outcome of this case may have significant implications for Ghana’s political landscape.
