US Revokes Over 100,000 Visas in Crackdown on Immigration Violations

The U.S. State Department has revoked more than 100,000 visas, including thousands of student and specialized visas, as part of a broader immigration enforcement strategy. According to the State Department, the revocations are primarily due to encounters with U.S. law enforcement for criminal activity.

The affected visas include approximately 8,000 student visas and 2,500 specialized visas. The State Department’s deputy spokesperson, Tommy Pigott, stated that the four leading causes for revocations were overstays, driving under the influence, assault, and theft. These revocations mark a 150% increase from the previous year, reflecting the current administration’s strict approach to immigration.

The U.S. government has intensified its scrutiny of visa holders, with the State Department launching a Continuous Vetting Center to monitor foreign nationals on American soil. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with U.S. laws and swiftly revoke visas of those posing a threat to American citizens.

According to Reuters, the Trump administration has prioritized deportation and visa enforcement, with over 2.5 million voluntary departures and deportations reported. The administration has also adopted stricter policies on granting visas, including tightened social media vetting and expanded screening.

The visa revocations have sparked concerns about due process and human rights, with some individuals facing deportation without full opportunities to contest their removal. The State Department has emphasized its commitment to keeping America safe, stating, “We will continue to deport these thugs to keep America safe”.
