The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has clarified that it is not party policy to bar Michael “Windows” Aidoo from contesting in the Ayawaso East parliamentary elections. According to Mahdi Jibril, a key party official, the decision lies with the delegates who will vote in the polls.
Speaking to CTV News, Jibril emphasized that nominations are open to all eligible candidates, and it is up to the party members to decide who they want to represent them. “It’s not NDC policy to allow or disallow Windows to contest, but party members – and nominations are open. The delegates will decide at the poll, not the party,” Jibril said.
The comments come amid speculation about Windows’ eligibility to contest in the elections. The NDC has been facing internal conflicts in the constituency, with some members expressing concerns about Windows’ candidacy.
Jibril’s statement is seen as an attempt to calm nerves and reassure party members that the process is open and fair. The Ayawaso East seat is considered a key constituency, and the NDC is keen to emerge victorious in the polls.
The party’s national executives are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the elections. With the polls looming, the NDC is working to present a united front and secure the seat.
The decision now lies with the delegates, who will have the final say on who represents the NDC in the Ayawaso East elections.
