Salomey Case: Kwakye Ofosu Says Evidence Is Heavy
Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that he has reviewed the evidence against Ghanaian nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe in the Ghana Jollof case and described it as heavy. He said the suspect is not as saintly as many supporters are portraying on social media, following her arrest and remand in Accra.
Kwakye Ofosu made the remarks while responding to public sympathy for Salomey Baffoe, who hails from Jema in the Kintampo South District. The case, linked to the controversial Ghana Jollof TikTok platform, has attracted national attention after police forensic teams traced financial transactions and digital files to the suspect. He urged the public to allow the investigative process to proceed without emotional interference.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, he has seen the evidence against Salomey and can say it is quite heavy, indicating that the Ghanaian nurse is not as saintly as many people claim. He noted that investigators have compiled audio, video, and Mobile Money records that will be tested in court, and warned against premature judgment that could undermine justice.
In Ghana, evidence gathering in cyber-related cases follows strict protocols under the Cybersecurity Act 2020 and the Electronic Transactions Act. The Criminal Investigations Department uses digital forensics to image devices, extract deleted files, and authenticate Mobile Money logs through network providers. The Bank of Ghana requires all Mobile Money operators to retain Know Your Customer data linked to Ghana Card, making financial trails verifiable in court.
The Free SHS and nursing training system also provides context for public interest. Many Ghanaian nurses train under government-supported programs and are posted across districts to support healthcare delivery. The Nursing and Midwifery Council regulates professional conduct, while the Ghana Health Service oversees postings. Cases involving health workers therefore attract heightened scrutiny because of their essential role in community health.
Kwakye Ofosu reiterated that government will not interfere in police investigations and called for calm in Kintampo South and on social media. He said the judiciary will determine the fate of Salomey Awiti Baffoe based on facts, not sentiments, as the Ghana Jollof case moves forward.
