NASA JWST Discovers 13 Billion Year Galaxies Seeding Life
NASA James Webb Space Telescope has discovered 3 early galaxies spreading heavy elements just 500 million years after Big Bang in deep space observation. Team from University of Arizona used 30 hours of Webb infrared exposure to catch light that travelled 13 billion years. Discovery shows universe began creating carbon, oxygen and silicon ingredients for planets and life faster than scientists believed.
According to http://Phys.org, researchers found absorption lines blueshifted from galaxies during Epoch of Reionization, proving gas was flowing outward and enriching intergalactic space. Study published in Nature Astronomy on September 24, 2026, used galaxies as background light sources to detect carbon, oxygen and silicon escaping. Lead author Yongda Zhu manually searched hundreds of spectra and confirmed early baryon cycling.
Method is called transmission spectroscopy. Light from distant galaxy passes through surrounding gas. Elements leave fingerprints as dark lines. When gas moves away, lines shift blue. Team saw this for heavy elements. Heavy means heavier than hydrogen and helium. Stars make them by fusion. Supernova explosions release them. Early universe should have been only hydrogen and helium. Webb proves heavy elements appeared quickly. This also explains why first generation Population III stars made of pure gas are hard to find, because pristine gas vanished early like vanilla ice cream mixed with sprinkles.
