Police have arrested two key suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in October 2025. The arrests were confirmed in Accra following months of investigations.
The suspects were picked up in a special intelligence-led operation after police traced links to the goalkeeper’s disappearance. Cheikh Toure, who played in the Senegalese league, was reported kidnapped in Ghana before his body was later found.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the two suspects are in custody and assisting investigations into kidnapping, murder and possible ransom demands. Police say further arrests are expected as the case unfolds.
The case shocked the football community in Senegal and Ghana after reports linked Toure’s movement to Ghana for trials. Police had earlier assured the public of a thorough probe with support from Interpol.
Under Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act, kidnapping and murder carry severe penalties including life imprisonment. The Ghana Police Service says its Anti-Kidnapping Unit is intensifying operations against cross-border crimes targeting foreigners and athletes.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned soon as police work to establish motive and recover evidence linked to the October 2025 murder.
