Ghana AIDS Commission Launches Online HIV Self Testing Service

Ghana AIDS Commission has announced plans to launch an Online HIV Self Testing service on 1st October 2026 to expand confidential access to screening nationwide. The initiative targets young people and hard to reach populations who prefer private testing outside health facilities.
The new platform will allow Ghanaians to order self test kits, receive guided instructions and obtain virtual counseling before and after results. Officials say the digital approach reduces stigma, improves early detection and links positive cases to care quickly. Ghana is pushing to achieve 95 95 95 global targets for HIV control.
According to Ghana AIDS Commission, the October launch forms part of national strategy to decentralize services and leverage technology for public health gains. The Commission noted that self testing has proven effective in other African countries and will be supported by certified community health workers and pharmacists.
In Ghana health system context, HIV testing remains cornerstone for prevention and treatment under National HIV Strategic Plan. Similar to how CSSPS uses computerized merit system for BECE placement, WASSCE grading applies A1 to F9 scale for tertiary qualification, Free SHS policy expands access to education, Energy Commission licensing enforces electrical safety standards and Galamsey laws under Minerals and Mining Act protect environment, HIV self testing ensures confidential access to essential health service.
Health advocates have welcomed the online service saying it will increase testing among men and youth who avoid clinics due to fear and privacy concerns. The Commission assured data protection and linkage to antiretroviral therapy for anyone who tests positive through the platform.
The official unveiling is scheduled for 1st October 2026 in Accra with demonstrations on kit use, result interpretation and hotline support as Ghana intensifies efforts to end AIDS as public health threat by 2030.

[23/09, 3:32 pm] Meta AI: Bank Of Ghana Begins 132nd MPC Meeting Under New IMF PCI
The Bank of Ghana on 23rd September 2026 commenced its 132nd Monetary Policy Committee meeting with Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama welcoming members and staff to deliberations in Accra. The meeting marks the first MPC under Ghana 36 month Policy Coordination Instrument with the IMF signalling a new phase focused on consolidating macroeconomic stability.
In his opening remarks Governor Asiama highlighted key global and domestic developments including the evolving crisis in the Middle East, rising global energy prices, Ghana inflation trajectory, exchange rate stability, reserve accumulation, economic growth and fiscal developments. Headline inflation stands at 5.0 percent in August with real GDP growth at 6.0 percent in Q2.
According to Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, rebuilding net foreign assets and strengthening reserves remain key priorities as Ghana heads into the fourth quarter. The Committee will carefully assess balance of risks and determine appropriate monetary policy stance to sustain disinflation while supporting growth.
In Ghana economic governance context, MPC decisions influence lending rates, cedi stability and business confidence under inflation targeting framework. Similar to how CSSPS uses transparent computerized merit placement for BECE graduates, WASSCE grading applies 8 point scale from A1 to F9 to determine tertiary qualification, Free SHS policy absorbs tuition to expand access, Energy Commission licensing ensures qualified electrical practice and Galamsey laws under Minerals and Mining Act protect water bodies, Monetary Policy Rate guides cost of credit across banking system.
The 132nd meeting comes at a time when Ghana is consolidating gains after IMF program with improved reserves and easing inflation from double digits last year. Analysts expect the Committee to weigh Middle East tensions and energy price volatility against strong domestic growth and fiscal discipline under the new PCI framework.
The MPC session is currently underway in Accra with a press briefing and policy rate decision expected at the end of the 3 day meeting as markets watch for signals on future rate direction.
