Agbodza Warns Contractors: Deliver Or Lose Big Push
Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has issued a stern directive to road contractors to maintain full construction momentum during official visits, insisting that work must not be suspended to accommodate dignitaries unless public safety is imperiled. The minister says protocol courtesies must not compromise project velocity.
Speaking during a working inspection tour of the Northern Region on Saturday, fifth September, the minister emphasized that government officials are not entitled to preferential treatment at construction sites. He cautioned against cosmetic measures such as halting routine dust suppression merely to impress visiting delegations, stressing that community health remains paramount.
The minister is quoted as saying no contractor should ever stop anything just because we are coming around, except when it poses danger to the public, including us. He added that officials visiting sites should be regarded no differently from ordinary citizens whose daily lives are impacted by construction activities.
In a related warning, Mr Agbodza declared that timely delivery will be the decisive criterion for participation in the next phase of the government’s flagship Big Push infrastructure programme. Contractors who delay or abandon current obligations, he noted, will forfeit consideration for future awards, while those demonstrating execution capacity will be prioritized.
The minister expressed satisfaction with progress on the Tamale Outer Ring Road being executed by China Railway No Five, Sinohydro Corporation Limited and Munisco Construction, reaffirming government’s commitment to complete the critical artery by the end of twenty twenty seven to catalyze investment and improve quality of life in one of West Africa’s fastest growing cities.
The dual directives underscore a broader policy shift toward accountability, efficiency, and citizen centered delivery in the roads sector, with dust control and uninterrupted execution positioned as non-negotiable benchmarks.
