Dr. Robert Doh Commissions Borehole and Empowers Artisans In Ho-Heve
Ho-Heve was the centre of communal transformation on Saturday, 22nd August, 2026, as renowned medical doctor and philanthropist Dr. Robert Kofi Doh, National Youth Commissioner of PROFORUM, commissioned a fully mechanized borehole fitted with an overhead water storage tank for the community and officially launched the Dr. Doh Tradesmen Empowerment Initiative.
The dual intervention, which drew artisans and residents from across the Ho Municipality including Atikpui, Shia, Hoe, Akrofu, Ziavi and Sokode, represents a strategic blend of social infrastructure and economic empowerment. Addressing a durbar of chiefs, beneficiaries and people of Heve, Dr. Doh said the day was not merely about commissioning infrastructure but about restoring hope, dignity, service and opportunity.
“This intervention reflects a simple philosophy that is dear to my heart: respond to immediate community needs while helping people build sustainable livelihoods,” Dr. Doh stated. He explained that water remains a fundamental human necessity and the borehole project was initiated after identifying a genuine need in Heve and adjoining communities.
Dr. Doh recounted his personal connection to Ho-Heve, tracing it to his formative years at E.P. Basic Schools at Dome and Mawuli School, and his political roots as a member of the Amevor Branch of the National Democratic Congress in Heve. He credited Mr. Amevor for fatherly guidance and noted that success imposes a responsibility to reinvest in communities that shaped one’s journey.
The borehole was made possible through collaborative financing. Dr. Doh disclosed that he engaged One Africa Market in Accra, which responded positively with financial support that complemented his personal contribution, demonstrating what becomes achievable when community need converges with corporate goodwill.
According to Dr. Doh, development cannot be reduced to physical infrastructure alone. The Tradesmen Empowerment segment therefore provided productive assets to selected artisans to enhance productivity and enterprise growth. Under Set One, thirteen sewing machines with thirteen electric motors were distributed. Set Two comprised nine standing hair dryers, nine hair straighteners, nine sets of different comb sizes and nine hygiene kits. Set Three featured three modern tile-laying machines. Set Four contained four barbering sterilizers, four barbering machines with cord, four cordless barbering machines, four sets of assorted combs, four scissors, four barber aprons and cover cloths, plus four hygiene kits. Set Five included a pack of twelve electricity testers, fishing tape, a socket diagnostic set and a multipurpose long nose cutter and plier set. Set Six offered direct cash support to two beneficiaries to expand their workshops.
The Chief of Ho-Heve, Torgbe Anikpi III, who chaired the ceremony, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Doh for the timely intervention. “We are deeply grateful to our son Dr. Robert Kofi Doh for remembering his roots. This water will serve our women, our children and our future. We appeal to him and all well-meaning partners to help us complete the Heve Community Centre, which remains dear to our development agenda,” Torgbe Anikpi said.
Dr. Doh emphasized that artisans including mechanics, carpenters, masons, welders, electricians, plumbers, tailors, hairdressers and barbers are critical contributors to the local economy, and that skills without tools stifle productivity. He charged beneficiaries to grow their enterprises, become employers and mentors, and to pass on skills to the next generation. He further acknowledged the sacrifices of NDC youth in Ho Central, pledging continuous mentorship, networking and skills training opportunities beyond political office, stressing that politics must ultimately be about people, not positions.
He extended appreciation to One Africa Market, traditional and community leaders, the Amevor Branch executives, Mr. Amevor and all contributors. He closed on three defining words: Service, Community, Opportunity, declaring, “May this water serve generations. May these tools build enterprises. May our young people find opportunities to rise.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yesutor Arku conveyed heartfelt appreciation and pledged judicious utilization of the tools. She noted that the support would not only improve quality of service and income but would be leveraged to train apprentices and create opportunities for others within the municipality.
