Enduring Hardness
“Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” — 2 Timothy 2:3 ESV
Every soldier expects battle. And every believer who is serious about God will face seasons of hardness. Trials, delays, opposition, and pressure are not proof that God has abandoned you.
They are often the furnace where faith is refined and Christlike character is formed. “For I consider
that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us” — Romans 8:18 ESV.
You cannot endure hardness in your own strength. Flesh gets weary. Emotions fail. But the Spirit does not. This is why the infilling of the Spirit is so critical in hard seasons. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, He strengthens your inner man. He reminds you of God’s Word when your mind is clouded. He prays through you with groanings when you have no words.
He produces endurance, joy, and peace right in the middle of the storm. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” — Acts 1:8 ESV. A Spirit-filled life doesn’t remove the battle, but it gives you the power to stand in it. So keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, even when everything around you is shaking. Let the Spirit fill you afresh each day. Yield to Him in prayer, in worship, and in the Word.
He will sustain you, teach you, and lead you through. “When you pass through the waters I will be with you” — Isaiah 43:2 ESV. The hardness you are facing now is producing perseverance,
proven character, and hope in you. Don’t quit. Endure. The Spirit of God is with you, and He will
carry you to victory.
Prayer:
Father, fill me again with Your Spirit. Strengthen me on the inside to endure hardness with faith
and joy. When I am weak, be my strength. When I am discouraged, be my comfort. Help me to
stand as a good soldier until I see Your deliverance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
