Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been granted bail by the Accra High Court. The bail amount was set at GH₵100,000, with two sureties required to guarantee his release.
The court, presided over by Justice Halima El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, also mandated that Abronye DC surrender his travel documents to the court registry and report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) every fortnight. This development brings temporary relief to the NPP stalwart, who had been in custody since his arrest on May 14, 2026.
Abronye DC’s legal team, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, had argued for his release, citing concerns about his health and personal liberty. The prosecution, however, had opposed the bail application, citing the seriousness of the charges against him.
The charges stem from alleged derogatory remarks made by Abronye DC against a judge and attempts to incite the public against the judiciary. The case has sparked significant interest, with senior NPP officials and party supporters expressing solidarity with the embattled chairman.
The court’s decision is a welcome respite for Abronye DC, who has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. As he navigates the judicial process, the NPP will be watching closely, eager to see how the case unfolds.
