ECG to Provide Regular Power Outage Updates

The Energy Minister, Dr. John Jinapor, has announced that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will provide periodic updates on power outages every 12 hours, aiming to improve communication with the public amidst ongoing intermittent power disruptions.

According to #GHOneNews, the move is part of efforts to address the challenges facing Ghana’s electricity distribution system. Dr. Jinapor emphasized the need for transparency and honesty in communicating developments around the power situation, assuring Ghanaians that the government is working tirelessly to resolve the issue.

The Minister’s directive follows a meeting with key power sector stakeholders, including ECG and NEDCo officials, to assess the challenges and chart a path toward improved service delivery. Dr. Jinapor stressed that the government, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, is investing in modernizing and expanding power infrastructure to strengthen system capacity and reliability.

A technical team led by Engineer Williams Amuna has been tasked with investigating the incident, with a report expected within two weeks. Security agencies are also conducting a separate investigation, prioritizing the safety of engineers during restoration.

The ECG will now issue more regular updates, rather than weekly schedules, to better reflect the rapidly changing situation. This move aims to ensure public trust as the government works to stabilize the electricity supply following disruptions caused by the Akosombo plant fire.
