In a bizarre incident, pythons invaded an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) substation in Ahodwo, Kumisi, causing widespread power outages. According to #CitiNewsroom, ECG engineers bravely navigated the scaly obstruction to restore power to affected areas.
The unusual disruption occurred on Wednesday, April 22, when residents along the Ahodwo–Daban–Dr. Asafo Adjei Road experienced a sudden power outage. ECG’s Ahinsan District Engineer, Ing. Kwaku Appiah, confirmed that the presence of the pythons made operations difficult, as they had taken refuge within the facility.
A fault team from ECG’s Ahinsan District was quickly deployed to investigate and resolve the disruption. “After attempts by residents to capture the python proved futile, the python crawled beneath the substation, and the faults team risked their lives by taking advantage of the short window to renew the fuse and restore power supply to affected customers,” Ing. Appiah explained.
The situation was later reported to the Kumisi Zoo for assistance, and officials eventually captured two pythons, along with eggs believed to have been laid at the substation. ECG’s Ashanti West Regional General Manager, Ing. George Amoah, urged customers to report outages through official ECG channels.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by ECG in maintaining power supply infrastructure. Despite the obstacles, engineers successfully restored electricity to parts of Kumisi, demonstrating their commitment to service delivery.
