Mahama Launches 24-Hour Economy Market Initiative

President John Dramani Mahama has broken ground for the construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Dormaa Ahenkro, promising to replicate the project in all 261 districts nationwide. According to #MahamaThePresident, the markets will feature modern facilities, including banking services, cold storage units, daycare centres, police and fire posts, clinics, and other essential amenities aimed at boosting economic activity and improving the lives of traders and consumers.
The initiative is part of Mahama’s vision to transform the country’s economy and promote sustainable development. The market is expected to create employment opportunities, increase revenue for traders, and enhance the overall business environment in the region.
During his visit, President Mahama also inspected progress on key road infrastructure projects, including the Jinijini–Sampa Road and the Sunyani Outer Ring Road. He noted that macroeconomic stability had improved significantly, with inflation declining from 23.4 percent to 3.3 percent and the Ghana cedi strengthening from between GH¢16–GH¢17 to about GH¢10.70 against the US dollar.
Mahama emphasized that sustaining these economic gains remains critical to protecting the economy against future external shocks. He reiterated his commitment to working towards a more prosperous and stable Ghana, where economic growth benefits all citizens.
The project is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, with traders and residents expressing optimism about the benefits of the 24-hour economy.
