The Ghana Gold Board has denied allegations of inflating laptop prices and sole-sourcing an office renovation contract, describing the claims as “false and misleading”. According to #GOLDBOD, the procurement processes were legitimate and transparent, with approvals obtained from relevant authorities.
In a statement signed by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer, GOLDBOD explained that the procurement of 15 laptops from GET4LESS Ghana Limited was done in accordance with the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) as amended. The laptops were procured at a competitive price of GHC21,500 each, which is in line with market rates.
With regards to the office renovation works, GOLDBOD confirmed that the contract was awarded to Correca Ghana Limited following a restricted tendering process, which is a permissible procurement method under the Public Procurement Act. Three companies participated in the tender, and Correca Ghana Limited emerged as the successful bidder.
“The Ghana Gold Board holds transparency and accountability as core principles and will continue to ensure that all contracts and procurement activities are publicly disclosed,” said Prince Kwame Minkah.
GOLDBOD had relocated to the old Bank of Ghana head office building, which was previously described as structurally defective. The renovation works were necessary to improve the building’s structural integrity and suitability for use.
The board urged the public to disregard the allegations, assuring them that it will continue to operate with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
