Ghana Air Force Bolsters Fleet with Airbus H175 Helicopter

The Ghana Air Force has taken delivery of a state-of-the-art Airbus H175 helicopter from France, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing modernization efforts. The aircraft arrived in Accra on Thursday, March 5, 2026, after completing technical acceptance procedures with Airbus Helicopters.

According to #GHOneNews, the helicopter was ferried from Marignane, France, via a carefully planned route through Spain and North-West Africa, before arriving in Ghana. The acquisition is part of a broader defence procurement programme approved by Parliament to enhance the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The H175 helicopter is expected to significantly enhance the Ghana Air Force’s operational capabilities, particularly in search and rescue missions, medical evacuations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response. Equipped with advanced avionics and extended operational range, the aircraft will provide improved endurance and flexibility in addressing security challenges.

Acting Minister for Defence, Hon Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, received the aircraft, highlighting the strategic importance of the acquisition. “The addition of the Airbus H175 is a testament to our commitment to strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces,” he said.

The Ghana Air Force plans to deploy the helicopter for various missions, including troop movement, logistics support, and maritime surveillance. The aircraft will undergo comprehensive technical inspections and training before becoming operational.

The acquisition of the H175 helicopter is part of a wider aircraft procurement initiative, which includes the purchase of one H160 and three H175 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, as well as a Falcon 6X long-range aircraft from Dassault Aviation.
