Police Foil Narcotics Smuggling Operation

The Western Regional Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, intercepting two trucks loaded with 152 bales of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics. Three suspects, Moses Kwaku Tawiah, 44, Kwame Kontor, 44, and Kwabena Forson, 55, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to the police report, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at about 5:20 pm when duty men at the Assorkor barrier near Shama intercepted a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GE 8965-12 loaded with the suspected narcotics. The occupants fled the scene, but Moses Kwaku Tawiah later surfaced and claimed the truck belonged to his brother.
Further investigation revealed that each bale contained about 80 slabs of the compressed substance, and a second truck, a Hyundai gold truck with registration number GS 3368-17, was also found loaded with similar goods. The police command assures the general public of its commitment to combatting drug trafficking and other related offences.
The two trucks containing the alleged substance have been impounded, and a cash sum of GH 69,000.00, allegedly meant to bribe the police, has been retained for evidential purposes. The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
