Fake Nurse Caught with Stolen Baby

A 33-year-old woman, Latifa Salifu, has been arrested in connection with the theft of a four-day-old baby boy from the postnatal ward of Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra. According to Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the suspect was disguised as a nurse and took the baby under the pretext of administering medication.
The baby’s mother, Precious Ankomah, had delivered her son on February 14, 2026, and was recovering at the hospital when the incident occurred. The suspect, a cloth seller in Accra, claimed she had delivered at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and was discharged, but police investigations found no records to support her claim.
The Dansoman Police Command launched a manhunt after the incident was reported on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and arrested Salifu at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital early the next day. The baby is currently safe and receiving care.
Superintendent Obeng stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s motives and possible accomplices. The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The incident has raised concerns about hospital security and the need for increased vigilance among healthcare staff. The hospital authorities have assured the public that they are reviewing their security protocols to prevent similar incidents.
The case highlights the importance of swift police action and public cooperation in solving crimes.
