Eschewing Lust

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the

world, the love of the Father is not in him.” – 1 John 2:15 KJV.

Valentine’s Day can highlight different views on love. As a believer, focus on God’s

definition of love – pure, selfless, and honoring Him. “Love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” (1 John 4:7 KJV).

The world’s view of love can be distorted, emphasizing feelings or physical

attraction. God’s love is about commitment, respect, and valuing others. In Ghana’s context, prioritize love that reflects God’s character – agape love.

Eschew (avoid) love that’s selfish or promiscuous. “Flet youthfulness, and lusts, and

drunkenness, and revellings, and banquetings, and abominable idolatries:” (1 Peter 4:3 KJV, slightly adapted). Choose love that’s honoring to God and others.

Valentine’s Day can be an opportunity to celebrate love in healthy ways –

friendships, family, God’s love. Focus on purity, commitment, and selflessness.

As you navigate Valentine’s Day, let God’s love guide you. Show love like His to those around you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me eschew distorted views of love and reflect Your pure love. Guide me to love like You do. Amen.
