Police Royal Ladies Shine at Akwasidae Festival

The Ghana Police Service’s Royal Ladies stole the show at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, celebrating the first Akwasidae festival of 2026 with a grand royal lunch in their honor. The event, held on February 1, brought together dignitaries, including the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and the Inspector-General of Police, Christina Yohuno.

According to Kofi Tutu News, the Police Royal Ladies, led by Commander Kafui Agyemang, put on a stunning display, including a golden stool formation and a human alphabet of “Ayekoo”. This impressive show was a gesture of appreciation for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who honored the police service with a visit earlier this year.

The Akwasidae festival, a significant event in the Ashanti calendar, is celebrated every six weeks to honor ancestors and showcase royal elegance. The festival features vibrant durbars, rhythmic drumming, and traditional dances, attracting visitors from around the world.

The Police Royal Ladies’ event was a testament to the strong bond between the police service and the Asante Kingdom. The Asantehene’s presence underscored the importance of this relationship, highlighting the shared values of discipline, loyalty, and respect for tradition.

The celebration also featured traditional Ashanti cuisine, including Fufu and Light Soup, and showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Ashanti people.

As the Ghana Police Service continues to uphold law and order, events like this reinforce the significance of cultural traditions and community engagement.
