MahamaCares Saves Young Elsa’s Life

In a heartwarming turn of events, the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Ho Teaching Hospital was filled with joy when four-year-old Elsa Klabi’s mother received the life-changing news that her daughter’s kidney cancer treatment had been fully covered by MahamaCares. The Ghana Medical Trust Fund-MahamaCares paid GH¢46,000 for Elsa’s treatment, including chemotherapy, supportive care, and surgery.
Elsa, a native of Kpando in the Volta Region, had been battling Wilms’ Tumour, a childhood cancer affecting the kidney, for six months. Her family had struggled to raise funds for the urgently needed surgery, but thanks to MahamaCares, the life-saving operation could finally proceed. According to Dr Kokou Amegan-Aho, a Paediatric Oncologist at the Ho Teaching Hospital, Elsa’s care had been delayed due to financial constraints.
“This support has saved my daughter’s life. I am grateful to the Government and everyone behind MahamaCares,” said Ms Esther Addeh, Elsa’s mother, overcome with emotion. She had earlier appealed for help through social media, and the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, contacted the Hospital’s CEO, leading to MahamaCares’ intervention.
The Ho Teaching Hospital commends the Government for its compassion and commitment to providing life-saving healthcare through MahamaCares. The initiative has proved to be a critical lifeline for vulnerable patients requiring specialized and expensive medical care.
MahamaCares’ intervention highlights the importance of equitable access to healthcare, especially for children and families facing financial hardship. The organization’s transformative impact will undoubtedly bring hope to many more families in need.
The hospital joins Elsa’s family in thanking MahamaCares for their timely intervention, which has given Elsa a second chance at life.
