Badu Blames Lack of Transition for Black Stars Strugles

Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has attributed the struggles of Black Stars players Antoine Semenyo and Iñaki Williams to a lack of transitional plan in the national team. According to Ghana News Agency, Badu explained that the absence of a clear plan has led to poor performances by the team.

Badu, who was part of a successful Black Satellites team, believes that the current squad lacks the cohesion and experience of his era. He recalled how his generation seamlessly transitioned from the U20 team to the senior national team, producing successful results. “If you recall back our time, Sellas Tetteh went with Sadiq Adams, Ransford Osei, and all those guys. They came and prompted five of them. They met me, Samuel Inkoom and others. Then we took the U20 to the World Cup and won it,” he told TV3.

The former midfielder emphasized that the current Black Stars squad has only one member from the U20 team that qualified for the World Cup, highlighting the lack of continuity. Badu’s comments come amid the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Semenyo, who plays for Manchester City, and Williams, who plays for Athletic Bilbao, have struggled to replicate their club form for Ghana. Badu believes that the players need to be given time and support to develop a winning mentality.

The Black Stars’ struggles have sparked concerns about the team’s direction, with many calling for reforms in the Ghana Football Association.
