Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, led a high-level delegation to Conakry, Guinea, to attend the investiture ceremony of President-elect Mamadi Doumbouya, underscoring Ghana’s commitment to regional cooperation and democratic solidarity in West Africa.
According to 7DS Online, Professor Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to sustaining warm diplomatic relations with Guinea, exploring cooperation in trade, education, security, and infrastructure development. She stressed that Africa’s development challenges require stronger collaboration among sister nations, urging Ghana and Guinea to lead by example.
The Vice President’s visit is a renewal of ties between Accra and Conakry, built on longstanding historical ties that stretch back to the post-independence era when Dr. Kwame Nkrumah served as Co-President of Guinea after his overthrow in 1966. Professor Opoku-Agyemang described the Ghana-Guinea relationship as one of Africa’s most historic post-independence partnerships, built on solidarity, mutual respect, and shared Pan-African ideals.
President Doumbouya, who assumed office following Guinea’s political transition, pledged to pursue national reconciliation, economic reforms, and regional cooperation. The ceremony, held at the Stade General Lansana Conte in Conakry, was attended by several African leaders and international dignitaries.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s participation symbolizes Ghana’s diplomatic presence in key West African forums and reflects a mutual interest in strengthening the partnership envisioned by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Sekou Touré decades ago. The Vice President’s visit is expected to consolidate ties between Accra and Conakry and open new opportunities for bilateral collaboration.
The investiture ceremony was marked by military spectacle, cultural staging, and artistic performances, projecting control, unity, and continuity of the state under new leadership.
