Anthony Joshua Injured in Nigeria Car Crash, Two Killed

Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car accident in Nigeria, leaving two people dead and the boxer with minor injuries. The crash occurred on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway, with reports indicating Joshua’s vehicle collided with a stationary truck.
Joshua, 36, was seated in the back seat of the black Lexus SUV when the accident happened. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to eyewitnesses, the boxer was in pain as he was being helped out of the wreckage.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that two people died at the scene, while two others, including Joshua, survived the crash. Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle was speeding and lost control during an overtaking maneuver, leading to the collision.
The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the accident and stated that ambulances were sent to the scene. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, expressed relief that the boxer was okay, saying they were awaiting more information on the incident.
Joshua, who has Nigerian roots, was recently in the news for defeating Jake Paul in a heavyweight fight in Miami. He is expected to fight fellow Briton Tyson Fury in 2026.
The incident has sparked concern, with President Bola Tinubu expressing sympathy to Joshua and the families of the victims, calling it a “tragic accident”.
