Wa University Gets New Name

University Gets New Name
Ghana’s Parliament has approved the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (Amendment) Bill, 2025, changing the institution’s name to the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), Wa. This decision aims to depoliticize public institutions and focus on the university’s core mandate in business and integrated development studies.
The name change is part of the government’s effort to reverse partisan renamings of public institutions carried out under the previous administration. Two other universities, C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, also had their names changed.
The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies is located in Wa, Upper West Region, and has been contributing to human capital development, especially in northern Ghana. The institution plans to establish a School of Medicine and Health Sciences to address healthcare workforce shortages in the region.
