Police Arrest 57-Year-Old Suspect In Viral Ghana Shoplifting Video

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested a 57-year-old man believed to be behind a series of shoplifting incidents captured in a video that recently went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms. The arrest was announced in a press release issued on 7th November, 2026.
The suspect, Nsiah Samuel, a self-acclaimed chief and minister of the gospel residing at Akrade in the Eastern Region, was arrested on 5th November, 2026 by the Somanya District Police Command. The arrest followed intelligence gathered in collaboration with the Borteyman Police in Accra.
Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to stealing consumable items, electronics, clothing, and other shop goods from retail outlets across Kibi, Suhum, Ashaiman, Accra Central, Koforidua, Tema, Akosombo, Adenta, and other locations in the southern part of Ghana. Police say the viral video helped link the suspect to the widespread incidents.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Borteyman Police for further investigation. Police say further investigations will establish the full extent of the alleged thefts and whether other persons were involved in the incidents across the various towns.
The Ghana Police Service has thanked members of the public whose vigilance and sharing of information on social media contributed to the breakthrough and arrest. Police say public cooperation remains key to fighting crime in communities across the country.
The press release was signed by C/Inspector Bridget Opoku of the Public Affairs Unit, Eastern Region. Howedey.com will continue to follow the case and bring readers updates as the Borteyman Police conclude their investigations.
