Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis have signed an additional bilateral labour agreement to provide enhanced salaries, health insurance, rent allowances, end-of-service benefits and other labour protections for Ghanaian nurses working in the Caribbean nation.
The agreement was signed in New York by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Saint Kitts and Nevis Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The new deal guarantees Ghanaian nurses improved conditions of service including enhanced salaries, comprehensive health insurance, rent allowances and end-of-service benefits, according to officials familiar with the pact. The protections are aimed at ensuring dignity and welfare for Ghanaian health professionals abroad.
The signing in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly marks a major step in deepening labour cooperation between Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis. It also opens more legal migration pathways for Ghanaian nurses seeking international opportunities.
Government sources say the agreement will boost Ghana’s foreign labour export agenda while securing stronger protections that prevent exploitation and ensure better living conditions for nurses deployed to the Caribbean nation.
