China Tells Israel Stop Forced West Bank Settlement Expansion

China tells Israel to stop ‘forced establishment’ of West Bank settlements, warning that continued expansion violates international law and undermines prospects for peace. The statement was delivered at the United Nations Security Council by China’s envoy.
Beijing said Israel must immediately cease settlement construction, home demolitions and forced displacement of Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. China reiterated that settlements are illegal under international law and called for full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2334.
The Chinese delegation urged both sides to return to the two-state solution framework, with a sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders. China also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, increased humanitarian aid and protection of civilians.
The remarks come as settlement activity has intensified, with reports of thousands of new housing units approved and rising settler violence against Palestinian communities. The international community, including the African Union and EU, has repeatedly condemned the expansion.
