Church leaders of the Assemblies of God have met President John Dramani Mahama ahead of the World Assemblies of God Congress scheduled to take place in Ghana. The delegation visited the President at the Presidency in Accra and prayed with him for wisdom and strength to lead the nation.
According to photos from the meeting, the team was led by the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, alongside other national and international executives of the church. The World Assemblies of God Congress is set for October 14 to 16, 2026 to mark 115 years of the global church movement and will be hosted in Ghana for the first time.
President Mahama, who is a proud member of the Assemblies of God Church, worships at Ringway Gospel Centre in Accra. Rev. Wengam has previously noted that Mahama is the first Assemblies of God member globally to become a President, an achievement recognized during the church’s centenary celebration in the United States in 2016. He was honoured as guest of honour for making history.
The leaders used the occasion to pray for the President, his family and the nation, and to brief him on preparations for the Congress which is expected to attract thousands of delegates from across the world. They also commended him for his continuous support to the church and his commitment to faith values, including his recent attendance at Ringway Gospel Centre after his Resetting Ghana Tour in Ahafo Region.
Photos from the meeting show the church leaders in a warm handshake and prayer session with President Mahama at the Presidency. The Congress, they said, will celebrate God’s faithfulness to the Assemblies of God movement and discuss the future of evangelism and social transformation.
The Presidency thanked the Assemblies of God leaders for their visit and prayers, reiterating government’s commitment to partner with faith-based organizations for national development and moral renewal.
