The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), in collaboration with the GRA Customs Division and National Security, has supervised the safe disposal of a 40-foot container of non-compliant, unhygienic diapers imported from Spain at the Vigour Safe Disposal Site in Shai Hills to prevent them from reaching the Ghanaian market.
The operation was carried out after the imported diapers failed to meet FDA standards following inspection and laboratory analysis at the Tema Port. Officials found that the products were unhygienic, poorly stored and not registered for sale in Ghana, posing serious health risks to babies if allowed onto the market.

According to the FDA, the 40-foot container was seized and held for further assessment before a decision was taken to destroy the consignment. The destruction exercise at Vigour Safe Disposal Site in Shai Hills was conducted under strict environmental safety guidelines with officials from all three agencies present to ensure full compliance and transparency.
The FDA has cautioned importers and distributors to desist from importing unregistered baby care products, emphasizing that all diapers, wipes and infant hygiene products must undergo rigorous quality checks and registration before entry into Ghana. The Authority says such unhygienic diapers could cause skin infections, rashes and other complications for infants.
