President John Dramani Mahama has inspected the Bechem Meat Processing Factory in the Ahafo Region, where operations are expected to begin by the end of the first quarter of 2027, as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour. The visit on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10 forms part of efforts to boost local economic growth and agro-industrialization.
The facility will process 6,000 birds per hour across two production lines for broilers and layers, supporting the government’s Nkoko Nketenkete programme, which has increased domestic poultry production from 4.6% to 22% as of May 2026. The project was first broken ground in November 2025 as a state-of-the-art hub with feed mill, cold storage and training academy.

The factory and its accompanying feed mill are expected to strengthen Ghana’s poultry value chain and support efforts to expand local production and markets for farmers in Ahafo, Bono and Ashanti. Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku said the facility will include waste-to-feed and fertilizer processing to reduce losses and support fisheries.
Speaking during the inspection at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality, President Mahama said the facility is a centre of excellence for poultry development, innovation and agribusiness incubation. He noted that government is linking anchor farmers to the factory and has started exporting eggs to Burkina Faso while adding eggs to the School Feeding Programme to absorb surplus.

The two-day tour also covers inspection of the Tepa–Goaso Road under the Big Push Programme and the Ntontroso Bridge linking Acherensua, a major food-producing area. The tour ends with a town hall Citizens Engagement at Goaso Victory Centre Assemblies of God Church.
Residents have welcomed the factory, saying it will create jobs, reduce poultry imports and guarantee ready market for local farmers. President Mahama said similar processing plants are planned for other regions to fully reset Ghana’s poultry sector.
