Women across the political divide are set to march in Accra to demand justice, equality and protection of women’s constitutional rights. Organizers say the demonstration will bring together female leaders, activists and citizens from all parties to speak with one voice on gender equity in Ghana.
The march is expected to focus on enforcing existing laws that protect women, improving access to justice for survivors of gender based violence, and strengthening representation of women in governance. Convener groups say the time has come for united action beyond party lines.
According to the organizers, the demonstration will highlight constitutional provisions on equality and call on government, Parliament and the judiciary to fast track reforms that safeguard women’s rights in workplaces, schools and communities.
Participants are expected to converge at a central point in Accra before proceeding through major streets with placards and messages of solidarity. Security has been notified and organizers say the march will be peaceful and lawful.
The organizers insist the march is non partisan and focused solely on justice, equality and protection of constitutional rights for all women in Ghana. They are calling on women across political divide to join and make their voices heard.
