The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Hospital has temporarily suspended services at its Outpatient Department (OPD) following an ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA). The hospital announced the suspension in a notice to patients and visitors, indicating that OPD services would remain unavailable until the industrial action is called off.
The development is expected to affect patients who depend on the hospital for routine consultations and other outpatient-related services. Hospital management apologized for the inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption and urged affected patients to contact the hospital administration for further information regarding the situation.
The notice did not provide an alternative arrangement for patients requiring outpatient care during the period of the suspension. It, however, assured patients that OPD services would resume once the GAUA strike is called off. The suspension comes amid the ongoing industrial action by GAUA, which has resulted in disruptions within affected public universities.
GAUA on Monday August 10 embarked on a indefinite industrial action over alleged disparities in market premiums and related allowances. Patients and visitors have consequently been advised to exercise patience and seek clarification from the hospital administration before visiting the facility for outpatient services. The hospital said it appreciated the understanding and patience of patients and the public as the situation persists.
