A Life of Honour
“Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.” — 1 Peter 2:17 ESV
Honour is the way of the Kingdom. It is seeing people the way God sees them, and treating them
with weight, respect, and dignity. A life of honour doesn’t wait for someone to deserve it. It flows
from a heart that fears God first. Jesus modeled honour perfectly. He honoured His Father in
heaven. He honoured His mother and those in authority. He honoured the broken, the
overlooked, and even those who betrayed Him. “Outdo one another in showing honor” —
Romans 12:10 ESV.
That is the standard for us. Honour shows up in small things: speaking well of others instead of
tearing them down, keeping your word, giving credit where it’s due, submitting to leadership,
valuing the elderly, serving those under you. Honour is also refusing to compromise your integrity
for applause or gain. “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely” — Proverbs 10:9 ESV.
We cannot live this way in the flesh. Strife, pride, and comparison fight against honour. That is
why we need the infilling of the Holy Spirit. He convicts us when we’re dishonouring, He teaches
us humility, and He fills us with love that esteems others. “Let each of you look not only to his
own interests, but also to the interests of others” — Philippians 2:4 ESV.
When you choose honour, God takes notice. Honour opens doors, builds trust, and reflects Christ
to a world that is quick to criticize. Live today with a heart that says, “I will honour God, and I will
honour people.”
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to live a life of honour. Fill me with Your Spirit and clothe me with humility. Help
me to see others as You see them and to treat them with respect. May my words, my work, and
my relationships reflect Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
