Ablakwa pledges modern theatre for Battor Catholic Hospital
GH¢100,000 has also been donated for staff kindergarten as hospital marks 70 years.
The government of Ghana set to support the expansion and modernization of the theatre at Battor Catholic Hospital as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the 70-year-old facility. The Foreign Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the commitment on Sunday, August 9, 2026, during the launch of the hospital’s 70th anniversary celebration.
In a Facebook post, Mr Ablakwa reiterated that the government would assist the hospital to develop a modern, expanded and fully equipped theatre capable of meeting the demands of a facility that has become an important centre for healthcare in North Tongu and surrounding communities. He said the intervention was particularly important given the hospital’s longstanding contribution to saving lives and providing specialised medical services to residents beyond the constituency.
In a separate intervention, Mr Ablakwa presented an initial GH¢100,000 towards the construction of a kindergarten for children of hospital staff. The initiative is intended to provide childcare support for young parents working at the hospital, enabling them to remain focused on their duties while their children receive care within the facility. The project is expected to address a practical challenge confronting some young staff members and contribute to a more supportive working environment at the hospital.
The anniversary celebration brought into focus Battor Catholic Hospital’s seven decades of service and its contribution to healthcare delivery in North Tongu and beyond. The Lawmaker commended the hospital’s management and staff for building and maintaining a reputation for quality healthcare, particularly in specialised areas.
He highlighted the facility’s work in obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and oncology, as well as its involvement in cervical cancer research and treatment. The hospital’s work in these areas has positioned it as an important healthcare institution for communities that depend on its services for both routine and specialized medical care.
The 70th anniversary was therefore not only a celebration of the hospital’s history but also an occasion to look ahead to the infrastructure and support required to sustain its contribution to healthcare. The proposed theatre upgrade, together with the planned kindergarten, represents two areas of support aimed at improving both patient care and the working environment for hospital staff.
Mr Ablakwa congratulated the management and staff on the milestone and reaffirmed his appreciation for their dedication to healthcare delivery and their service to communities in North Tongu and beyond.
