Education Ministry Demands Swift Arrest of Fugitive Teacher

The Ministry of Education has urged the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to locate, arrest and prosecute the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher accused of sexually exploiting a female student, expressing concern that the suspect remains at large despite a nationwide manhunt launched several weeks ago.

In a statement dated July 14, 2026, the Ministry described the continued inability to apprehend the teacher as deeply worrying, given the seriousness of the allegations and the public interest surrounding the case. It stressed that justice must be served without delay to protect students and uphold confidence in Ghana’s education system.

According to the Ministry, reports that the fugitive teacher recently granted a media interview should provide investigators with valuable leads in tracing his whereabouts. It noted that during the interview, the teacher reportedly claimed that his conduct was unintentional and requested a transfer to a village school.

The Ministry, however, rejected those claims, insisting that available evidence suggests the alleged misconduct was deliberate and intentional. It argued that the interview itself presents an opportunity for law enforcement agencies to identify and track the suspect.

To accelerate the search, the Ministry called on the Ghana Police Service to deploy all available investigative resources, including digital tracking technologies, while also engaging the media outlet that aired the interview to obtain any information that could assist in locating and arresting the suspect.

The statement further revealed that additional videos have surfaced allegedly showing the same teacher engaging in similar inappropriate behaviour with other girls believed to be students. Based on the evidence gathered so far, the Ministry said it believes the interdicted teacher exploited his position of trust and authority to prey on vulnerable female students.

Reiterating the government’s position, the Ministry referenced the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, who has described the incident as shameful, unacceptable and inconsistent with the values, ethics and professional standards expected of teachers.

While expressing confidence in the competence and investigative capacity of the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry said it would be disappointing if the suspect continued to evade arrest despite the police’s demonstrated ability to track and apprehend criminal suspects.

The Ministry also appealed to members of the public to support the investigation by volunteering any credible information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to the nearest police station.

Beyond the Bole SHS case, the Ministry expressed concern over what it described as the growing incidence of indiscipline involving teachers, school administrators and students across educational institutions nationwide. It warned that such incidents undermine teaching and learning, erode public confidence in schools and threaten efforts to build safe and disciplined learning environments.

To address the situation, the Ministry announced that the Minister for Education has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take firm and decisive disciplinary action against all forms of misconduct in pre-tertiary educational institutions. It stated that acts falling below accepted professional and student conduct standards would attract appropriate sanctions under existing laws and regulations.

The Ministry reaffirmed that discipline remains a cornerstone of quality education and emphasized that clear consequences must accompany violations of established rules and ethical standards.

As part of broader efforts to restore discipline in schools, the Ministry announced plans to convene a National Dialogue on tackling growing indiscipline in educational institutions. The dialogue will bring together key stakeholders in the education sector to deliberate on practical and sustainable measures aimed at strengthening discipline and safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s education system.
