Dr. Segbefia Lauds Mahama Justice Reforms For Grassroots
CENTRAL REGION — Aspiring NDC National Vice Chairman Dr. Edem Segbefia has lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s attorney general and minister for justice sector reforms, describing them as a transformative reset aimed at restoring public confidence and delivering tangible benefits to ordinary Ghanaians.
Addressing party grassroots during an interactive visit to the installation of Nana Richard Kofi Asiedu, Segbefia argued that the justice system previously suffered from perception deficits, delays, and unequal access. He contended that the current agenda recalibrates the mandate of the office to prioritize equity, accountability, and service delivery.
According to the NDC campaign engagement, Segbefia said, “President Mahama is restoring justice so that the law works for the poor, not just the powerful. When a market woman wins her case, when stolen money comes back to build a school, that is NDC delivering.”
He outlined a suite of interventions now underway, including evidence-based prosecutions, special task forces to fast-track criminal, civil, and corruption cases, and the expansion of Legal Aid offices and mobile clinics into districts. Segbefia noted enhanced collaboration between the attorney general’s office, the OSP, CHRAJ, and EOCO to pursue graft and recover state assets, alongside legal teams targeting judgment debts and dubious contracts.
The reforms also emphasize legislative updates on cyber fraud, human trafficking, and protections for women and children, improved case management through ICT, retraining of state attorneys and police prosecutors, and diversion programs to decongest prisons. Segbefia urged constituency executives to publicize Legal Aid access points, organize community legal education, and document cases of abuse for referral, framing justice delivery as both a governance imperative and a political asset.
With the administration positioning the rule of law as central to its social contract, Segbefia concluded that accessible justice, timely dispute resolution, and prosecutorial independence constitute the foundation for renewed trust. He charged grassroots structures to communicate these outcomes as evidence of NDC stewardship ahead of future electoral contests.
