Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, H.E. Benjamin Kofi Quashie has disclosed that demonstrations in Pretoria are set to continue beyond the June 30 protest, with organizers indicating that they intend to stage protests every Thursday.
Speaking on the evolving security situation on The Key Points, the High Commissioner revealed that another protest is currently underway in Pretoria, South Africa’s administrative capital, underscoring the persistence of the demonstrations and the need for continued vigilance by foreign nationals, including Ghanaians.
Mr. Quashie said the planned weekly protests suggest that tensions surrounding the demonstrations have not subsided, adding that the Ghana High Commission is closely monitoring developments and remains in constant engagement with South African authorities.
He assured that the mission is committed to safeguarding the interests and welfare of Ghanaian citizens living in South Africa and will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
The High Commissioner urged Ghanaians residing in South Africa to remain calm, avoid protest hotspots, exercise caution in their daily activities, and comply with directives issued by local security agencies.
He also encouraged members of the Ghanaian community to maintain contact with the High Commission and promptly report any security concerns or emergencies.
The latest development comes as Ghana continues to monitor the security situation in South Africa following recent anti-immigration demonstrations. Authorities are expected to maintain heightened security in affected areas as the planned weekly protests continue.
