Kpotosu Condemns Fake Profiles Amid Cyber Hunt
Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Member of Parliament for Ho Central Constituency under the National Democratic Congress, has issued a stern warning to the public about fraudulent Facebook accounts impersonating him and exploiting his likeness to mislead constituents.
The legislator released a Thursday morning address denouncing the unauthorised digital clones and cautioned citizens against engaging with content disseminated through those deceptive platforms. He stressed that the pages were created without his knowledge and do not represent his views or office.
The lawmaker disclosed that cyber security agencies have launched forensic inquiries to trace the architects of the impersonation scheme. He assured the public that the perpetrators would be identified and exposed once investigations are concluded, affirming his commitment to accountability and digital integrity.
Political analysts observe that identity spoofing has become a recurrent menace in Ghana’s digital sphere, often deployed to propagate misinformation, solicit funds, or tarnish reputations. Such subterfuge undermines constituent trust and distorts legitimate communication between elected officials and the electorate.
Ho Central has witnessed accelerated digitisation of civic engagement, making verified channels indispensable for policy dissemination and community mobilisation. The incident has reignited calls for stringent enforcement of cybercrime statutes and for public figures to authenticate their online presence.
Kpotosu reiterated that all official correspondence will emanate solely from his verified platforms and urged constituents to report suspicious accounts to the appropriate authorities for swift action.
