Ghana to License Medical Cannabis Cultivation

Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission is set to commence licensing for medical and industrial cannabis cultivation, marking a significant shift in the country’s approach to the industry. According to GHOneNews, the move is expected to create new economic opportunities and provide access to medicinal cannabis products.

The Commission has announced plans to process applications for licenses, which will allow individuals and companies to cultivate cannabis for medical and industrial purposes. This development is a result of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), which allows for the cultivation of cannabis for medical and industrial use.

“We are committed to ensuring that Ghanaians benefit from the cannabis industry,” said a spokesperson for the Narcotics Control Commission. “We will ensure that the licensing process is transparent and fair, and that applicants meet the required standards.”

The licensing process is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth, particularly in the agricultural sector. Ghana joins other African countries, such as South Africa and Lesotho, in embracing the medical cannabis industry.

The Commission has urged interested parties to take advantage of the opportunity and apply for licenses. The move is seen as a significant step towards unlocking Ghana’s potential in the global cannabis market.

The development is expected to have a positive impact on Ghana’s economy and healthcare sector.
