Ex-CID Chief Sues Over Defamatory Publications

A high-ranking former police officer, Commissioner of Police Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie, has initiated legal action against a national security operative and several media outlets over alleged defamatory publications. The lawsuit, filed at the High Court, seeks damages and a retraction of the allegedly false reports.

According to #CitiNewsroom, COP Andoh-Kwofie, a former Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), claims the publications, which linked her to a land dispute, are malicious and have damaged her reputation. The defendants include Charles Amegadzie, a national security operative, and several media houses.

The disputed publications reportedly suggested COP Andoh-Kwofie abused her position to engage in land-grabbing. However, she insists the land matter is already before a court of competent jurisdiction and denies any wrongdoing.

COP Andoh-Kwofie is seeking GH¢10 million in general damages, aggravated and exemplary damages, and a perpetual injunction to prevent further defamatory publications. The case highlights concerns about media responsibility and the impact of false reports on individuals’ reputations.

The High Court is expected to hear the case, with COP Andoh-Kwofie’s lawyer pushing for a declaration that the publications are defamatory and seeking redress for her client.
