Tough New Stance on Child Pornography Proposed

Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority is pushing for a stringent penalty of 25 years imprisonment for individuals found guilty of sharing nude images of minors. The proposal aims to curb the growing menace of child exploitation and protect vulnerable children from online predators.

The proposed law is part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s cyber security laws and safeguard children from online abuse. The authority is working closely with stakeholders to ensure the proposed law is effective in deterring potential offenders.

The proposed 25-year jail term is a significant increase from current penalties, reflecting the seriousness with which the authorities view this crime. “We are committed to protecting our children from exploitation and abuse,” said a spokesperson for the Cyber Security Authority.

The authority notes that sharing nudes of minors is a serious crime that has devastating consequences for the victims. The proposed law would apply to anyone found guilty of sharing, distributing, or possessing such images.

Ghana has seen a rise in cases of online child exploitation, prompting the need for tougher laws and enforcement. The proposed law is expected to be tabled before parliament soon.

The move has been welcomed by child rights advocates, who see it as a step in the right direction to protect children.
