The driver of Anthony Joshua’s vehicle has been discharged from the hospital and is likely to face prosecution for reckless driving following a fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The accident claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
The driver, who was behind the wheel of the SUV conveying Joshua, has given a statement to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and is cooperating with investigators. Preliminary investigations suggest that the crash was caused by a burst tyre and excessive speed, leading to the vehicle swerving into a stationary truck.
Joshua, who sustained minor injuries, is currently receiving treatment at Duchess International Hospital in Lagos and is reported to be in stable condition. Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has called Joshua to convey his condolences and wished him a speedy recovery.
The incident has raised concerns about Joshua’s boxing future, with promoter Frank Warren expressing doubts about his physical and mental readiness to return to the ring. The boxer’s scheduled fight against Tyson Fury in 2026 is now uncertain.
The FRSC has declared the truck driver, who fled the scene, wanted, and investigations are ongoing to establish accountability for the tragic crash .
